Why Aren’t You More Successful As An Investor?

Trading seems so easy…

You find a stock worth investing in, buy some and sit back to let the profits build up…

Unlike most money making processes, there is no digging, building, making…

You just push some buttons and make some money…

Right?

Well, sort of.

This common mindset reminds me of the old joke about the man who brings his car in because its running poorly…

The mechanic listens to the car for a minute, and then jiggles one little bitty wire…

The car instantly begins running perfectly!

He reaches over to his part bin, finds a replacement wire, and finishes the job in about 10 minutes…

That’ll be $100, the mechanic says…

Wait the man says…

You just jiggled a wire and it only took you 10 minutes???

What’s the breakdown of this $100?

The mechanic sighs, reaches over for a paper and pen and writes up the following invoice…

Wire -   $1.00

Labor - $10.00

Knowing what wire to jiggle so that the job didn’t take all day and cost you $400 - $89.00

This is just how the investing business is…

It takes a LOT of time to develop a strategy that produces consistently…

It takes a LOT of time to develop the risk management and entry timing skills to know when to push the button to enter or exit.

Once the “infrastructure of edge” has been built…It DOES become a dream business, with all the opportunity and money anybody could want, without the time and stress that it would take to make the same amount of money in a more classic bricks and mortar business.

The problem for many would be self directed investors, is that they haven’t put in the time yet to get to the “ease of use” phase of their career.

Another way to think of the skill of investing is to remember back to how hard and painful it was to learn to ride a bicycle…

But now, even if you haven’t been on a bike in YEARS…you STILL have that skill buried deep in your brain and can access it at any time.

The good news is that there are mentors and coaches out there who are available to you who can shorten your learning curve DRAMATICALLY.

The key is to find a trader who has a passion for trading and investing and who does it each and every week for themselves…

Most vendors out there are just that…

Vendors, and if they had been full time traders at some point are now disconnected from the markets and are not up to date with their strategies and tactics…

It takes lots of time to develop materials and curriculum, and by the time that goes to market and they start making money with it, the market may have moved on…

People also have this funny lack of respect for the markets, and their destructive power…

We all have heard horror stories about people who lost a ton of money in the markets and maybe that person was you in the past…

But they still cling to a fantasy they have built in their minds about what a profitable investor lifestyle looks like…

They think its sleek and sexy…

Well dressed and driving a fancy car…

Sophisticated in a James Bond like manner.

The reality?

EXTREMELY PROFITABLE investing is EXTREMELY BORING!!!

It takes intense focus and attention to detail when you are managing a trade, then total discipline to sit on your hands when the odds are not stacked in your favor.

It’s quite honestly like watching grass grow.

But the pain and frustration of being patient and disciplined can be easily mitigated by an experienced coach who will reinforce your proper behaviors and help you stay focused on how well things go when you stick to the plan…

And highlight the losses and trades that don’t perform when you break discipline and get off the plan or are not picky enough with your trade filters.

With proper guidance and reinforcement, bad habits will vanish within a month or two, and you will look back on your past mistakes and laugh that you could have ever been suckered into those bad trades in the past.

Not sticking to the plan becomes a non-issue, just like having made the mistake once… Who out there has ruined a carefully prepared dish by misreading the recipe and adding a tablespoon of salt rather than a teaspoon???

It was SUCH a disappointment having to throw out the entire dish, that you would be reminded each time you made that recipe not to make the same mistake again and ruin its taste.
